It might be tempting to let AI do the reading for you.
It can organize information and move you through complex material faster. For someone stepping into a governance role, that can feel like the smart choice.
What experience teaches is that the judgment you are being asked to bring cannot be outsourced to a summary. The materials leadership prepares exist to build the context that good governance requires. Engaging with that context is part of the responsibility.
The same standard applies when your board evaluates AI the organization wants to adopt. Experience the technology before you vote on it. Understand what it delivers for the people it will serve. You cannot ask the right questions without that firsthand understanding.
AI will be an essential part of how you work. The work of governing is still yours to own.
